​Prior to launching the first Adult Charter School East of the River in Washington, DC, Connie Spinner was found overseeing workforce development programs and career and technical education for the University of the District of Columbia. These programs provide free job and professional training courses—designed to hone the job skills D.C. employers need today—at five locations throughout the District. Career education is a critical component of the Community College Initiative. Ms. Spinner has over 30 years of experience in education and community development, working to improve the quality of life for citizens in the District of Columbia and for children in poor communities across the nation

Her academic foundation stems from Howard University, where she pursued degrees in Black Political Science/Africana Studies, complemented by minors in African and African-American Psychology.

Drawing from her diverse experiences and educational background, Amtyh stands as the Senior Lead for Content Development and Communications. Her role embodies a fusion of her passions and expertise, where she skillfully merges her understanding of social sciences and cultural psychology with her exceptional communication prowess.

Dr. Thomas Stewart
Setting the organizational strategy and vision for justice, equity, diversity, inclusion and climate.. The Vice Dean for JEDI is responsible for developing and implementing strategic interventions to create and enhance a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion, a climate of belonging, and work toward eradicating structural racism, gender bias and all forms of discrimination. Dr. Thomas Stewart graduated with honors from the University of the District of Columbia with a Bachelor’s degree in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.

Tearsa serves as Intake and Assessment Coordinator. Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, and has been serving with Urban Equity since 2020. She is currently completing her Associate of Arts and has been an active volunteer in Baltimore City Public Schools since 2014. She also enjoys expressing her creativity by designing/writing crochet fashions for women.
